Serving IP quality of service with HiperLAN/2

چکیده
The European project BRAIN investigates system concepts to provide wireless broadband access to the QoS-based Internet. As basis for the BRAIN radio access HiperLAN/2 is considered. In this paper we propose functions enhancing the HiperLAN/2 radio interface to support IP QoS. Thereby our special focus is on the system ability to schedule the various connections dedicated for IP traffic according their QoS requirements, whereby the specific characteristics of the wireless access such as transmission error control and link adaptation will be regarded.

IP Convergence Layer with QoS Support for HIPERLAN/2
The project Broadband Radio Access for IP based Networks (BRAIN) is a European project focusing on the provisioning of wireless IP services with fixed network Quality of Service (QoS) support over a HIPERLAN/2 air interface. This paper proposes a generic interface for controlling the QoS features of wireless link layers, discusses the related requirements and design issues, and investigates a p...
متن کاملHiperLAN/2 WLAN Prototype Demonstrates 40 Mbit/s Multimedia Applications with Quality of Service
This paper presents the demonstration results of a Wireless LAN (WLAN) prototype compliant with the European ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 standard. The HiperLAN/2 system enables bit rates from 6 Mbit/s up to 54 Mbit/s on top of a 5GHz wireless link and its powerful MAC/DLC layer enables Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia applications up to 40 Mbit/s.
متن کاملHiperlan/2 Public Access Interworking with 3G Cellular Systems
This paper discusses some of the recent work within the Broadband Radio Access Network (BRAN) project of ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), regarding the issue of establishing an interworking solution between HiperLAN/2 and 3 Generation (3G) cellular systems and introduces the concept of HiperLAN/2 Public Access. So far the BRAN project has identified several fundamentally ...
متن کاملCo-existence and Interworking of IEEE 802.11a and ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 in MultiHop Scenarios
IEEE 802.11a and ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 are evolving standards for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Radio systems of these types will operate at the unlicensed 5GHz bands. When these radio systems operate at the same radio channel in the neighborhood, they will mutually interfere with each other. Data throughput, quality of service levels, and availability will be degraded and unpredictable ...
متن کاملBER Estimation for HiperLAN/2
This paper presents a method to estimate the bit error rate (BER) of the wireless channel based on statistical analysis of the soft output of the receiver only. In HiperLAN/2 several modulation schemes can be used. The system should select the most suitable modulation scheme dependent on the quality of the wireless link and the Quality of Service requirements of the user. Our BER estimation met...
